Natural latex (rubber)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is the \u2018traditional\u2019 and most common material used for high-quality bungee cords.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fulflex<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fulflex is a brand specialising in rubber cords (often made from synthetic or natural polyisoprene).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why choose it: It guarantees perfect uniformity in diameter and tension. Unlike raw latex, it is treated to be more resistant to chemical ageing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Elastane (Spandex \/ Lycra)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is a synthetic fibre known for its fineness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. The sheath<\/mark><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

If the core is the \u2018muscle\u2019 of the rope, the sheath is its \u2018skin\u2019. It plays a crucial role: it protects the core from abrasion, sets the limit on elongation and enables the rope to withstand its environment (heat, chemicals, friction).<\/p>\n\n\n

    In the automotive industry, a seat strap is not simply an elastic cord. It must meet safety and durability requirements. The standards fall into three main categories: fire safety, mechanical performance, and health and the environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Fire safety<\/mark><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

    Any material present in the passenger compartment must slow down the spread of fire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    • FMVSS 302 (Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard):<\/strong> This is the international benchmark standard. It measures the horizontal burn rate of the material. The cord (core + sheath) must not burn at a rate exceeding 102 mm\/min.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • ISO 3795: <\/strong>The European and international equivalent of FMVSS 302 for determining combustion behaviour.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

      Mechanical strength<\/mark><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

      Seat webbing is subjected to repeated cycles. It must be able to retain its mechanical properties over time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      • Dynamic fatigue test:<\/strong> The cord is subjected to extension cycles (for example, 50,000 to 100,000 cycles at 50 per cent elongation) to measure the loss of residual tension.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • Breaking strength (ISO 2307):<\/strong> Measurement of the maximum force (in Newtons) before the cord breaks.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • Elongation under load:<\/strong> It is verified that, under a specific force, the cord stretches by exactly the expected length.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

        Ageing and the environment<\/mark><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

        • Thermal ageing (ISO 188): <\/strong>The cord is placed in a high-temperature oven for several days. It is checked to ensure that it does not become brittle or lose its elasticity.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • Fogging test (DIN 75201): <\/strong>The cord\u2019s components (latex oils or sheath dyes) are checked to ensure they do not evaporate and form a greasy film on the windscreen.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • Odour resistance (VDA 270): <\/strong>Very important for seats. The material must not give off an unpleasant odour when heated.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
