Custom shock cords & bungees
A bungee cord, also called a shock cord, is an elastic cable built around a rubber core and wrapped in a textile sheath, finished with a hook, a toggle, or another end fitting.
Eurosandow has manufactured bungee cords and shock cords since its creation, for customers who need a technical, certified product. Our factory in Saint-Etienne runs more than 150 braiding machines around the clock. That capacity lets us cover small technical batches as well as large industrial volumes, with the same level of control on elongation, tensile strength, and durability.
What is a bungee cord (shock cord)?
An elastic tensioner, commonly known as a bungee cord or elastic cable, is a product comprising two main components: a core made of elastic material (natural latex, synthetic rubber, elastane or EPDM elastomer) and a braided textile sheath which gives it its wear resistance, dimensional stability and final appearance.
Its ability to stretch and then return to its original length makes it suitable for a wide variety of applications: support, fastening, tensioning, shock absorption or mechanical return.
The end fittings, such as hooks, swivel fittings, overmoulding or crimping, determine how it is secured and complement its functional characteristics.
Technical specifications of our elastic tensioners
Our elastic tensioners are manufactured from carefully selected materials to ensure optimum durability and performance. Each specification is tailored to the product’s intended use.
Diameter: from 1.5 to 40 mm
We manufacture tensioning elastic cords in a full range of diameters, from the thinnest at 1.5 mm to the thickest at 40 mm, for demanding industrial applications, support or securing tarpaulins. The choice of diameter directly determines the tensioning force and the elongation capacity of the cord.
Materials of the core
The core is the functional heart of the elastic tensioner. It determines its strength, maximum elongation and resistance to environmental factors. We work with the following materials:
- Natural latex
- Fulflex
- Elastane
- EPDM elastomer
Textile covers and sheaths
The textile sheath protects the core and determines the visual appearance and surface strength of the elastic cord. We offer a wide range of fibres:
- Polyethylene (PE) — chemical resistance, suitable for swimming pools and outdoor use
- Polypropylene (PP) — lightweight, good strength-to-cost ratio
- Polyester — strength and dimensional stability
- Polyamide — abrasion resistance
- Kevlar, aramid, fibreglass, Technora — extreme performance for the defence, aerospace and rail industries
- Cotton, copper — for specific applications (technical textiles)

Bungee cords: a versatile product
The Eurosandow bungee cord is a versatile product, used in a range of industrial environments.
Its unique combination of elasticity and strength makes it an ideal choice for many applications.
How to choose the right bungee cord for your needs?
Choosing the right tensioning elastic cord depends on several criteria that need to be considered together. Here are the main questions to ask yourself before selecting or ordering one.
What diameter should you choose? The diameter directly determines the tension force. The larger the diameter, the greater the tension exerted by the tensioner for the same amount of stretch. For light-duty applications (bags, lightweight fabric), a diameter of 4 to 8 mm is generally sufficient. For a swimming pool cover or industrial use, you should opt for 10 mm or more.
What length of bungee cord? The length when at rest must be shorter than the distance to be covered: as a general rule, the tensioner should operate between 20 per cent and 75 per cent of its elastic elongation. Beyond 75 per cent, the product is subjected to excessive stress, which accelerates its ageing. For bespoke applications, our design office will calculate the optimal length based on your dimensions.
Natural latex or EPDM? Natural latex offers the best elasticity and fatigue life for indoor or low-exposure uses. EPDM elastomer is the preferred choice whenever the tensioner is exposed to UV light, ozone, chemicals or high temperatures. It is the default choice for outdoor applications.
With or without hooks? Tensioners with hooks are suitable for quick and repeated fastening (camping, transport, logistics). Bungee cords without end fittings (on a reel or cut to length) are preferred for assembly applications or for integration into finished equipment, where the end fitting is fitted by the customer.

Custom elastic tensioners: from prototype to large-scale production
Custom manufacturing lies at the heart of Eurosandow’s expertise. Our design office supports each client every step of the way, from defining the specifications right through to the start of large-scale production.

Customised lengths
We manufacture your tensioning straps to the exact length required, with tolerances tailored to your applications. There are no standard lengths: if you have a specific requirement, we will produce it for you. This flexibility is particularly useful for precision fastening applications in the automotive industry, industrial packaging and sports equipment.
Colour customisation
Eurosandow offers a colour chart featuring over 70 shades for polyester elastic cords, available from 300 metres. Colour customisation meets requirements for colour-coding (rapid identification of a diameter or strength level), compliance with a brand identity guide, or product differentiation. Other materials (polyethylene, polypropylene, polyamide) can also be considered in custom colours on request.

Guaranteed quality
Our products are tested and certified to meet the standards of the most demanding industries such as automotive, aerospace, railway, and defense.
Unless specified otherwise, our products should not be used beyond 75% elastic elongation. The use of our products should follow common sense, avoiding unnecessary risks. Our products should no longer be used if visible signs of wear are present.
Eurosandow disclaims any responsibility for specific assemblies involving our products.
